The Basilisk is a giant legendary creature with the traits of a venomous snake. In the Harry Potter series, the Basilisk can petrify anyone who looks at it in the eyes. It was eventually slayed by Harry Potter when he struck the sword of Gryffindor through the roof of its mouth while he was saving Ginevra Weasley from the Chamber of Secrets.
