Bunyip

The bunyip is a large, swamp dwelling semiaquatic monster found in freshwater bodies across Australia. Bunyips have been known to lurk anywhere in freshwater, from lakes and creeks to billabongs (ponds) and rivers. According to the native Aboriginal Australians, the bunyip is a ferocious, dangerous beast that stalks prey straying too close to the water's edge during the day, and comes out of its water source at night to hunt on land. The aborigines say that it will prey on animals, women, children and men. Various descriptions of the bunyip are made, with strange features like webbed feet or flippers, tusks, black or brown fur, red eyes, a dog or horse-like head and scales or feathers.
