A Partner Digimon (パートナーデジモン Pātonā Dejimon) is a digital monster who has allied themselves with a human to form a partnership, usually a Chosen Child, Tamer, or Guard Tamer. A Digimon generally gains the ability to evolve much more quickly than would be natural when with a human partner. In Digimon Tamers, this was a primary reason that Digimon sought out humans with whom to partner, as evidenced by the large number who initially sought the partnership of Makino Ruki, perceived as a strong potential tamer. The human partner and Digimon are usually, but not always, connected through a digivice, which in many cases helps channel the partner's energy to help the Digimon evolve. Often, a digimon's personality either closely compliments its tamer or is a complete inversion.
It is also possible for a human to have more than one Digimon partner and vice-versa (as is the case with Impmon in Digimon Tamers and Wallace in Digimon Adventure 02 Digimon Hurricane Touchdown!! Supreme Evolution!! The Golden Digimentals). It is also possible for temporary partnerships to form between humans and Digimon who are usually paired up with others (such as Katou Juri and Impmon in Digimon Tamers 2021 or Tsukiyono Ruli and Tesla Jellymon in Icy Hell).
