El Chavo is the main character of the series "El Chavo del Ocho" and its animated series "El Chavo: The Animated Series". An 8-year-old orphan boy whose real name is not known, although there are times when he wanted to give his real name, a running gag occurs where he is constantly interrupted while doing so. He is better known by the name "Chavo" ("boy" in colloquial Mexican language).
Despite Chavo's poor condition and his moments prone to stupidity, he is a very enthusiastic, creative and well-intentioned child, but also very carefree and clumsy, which is why other children take advantage of him. He came to the neighborhood when he was four years old and lives near apartment number 8, which belonged to an elderly woman who took care of him until his death. After his death, Chavo spends most of his time inside an abandoned barrel which he calls his "secret hideout." He has a craving for "Jelly Sandwiches", a type of sandwich popular in Mexico.
The character was played by Roberto Gómez Bolaños (1929-2014), who was the creator, screenwriter, co-producer and co-director of the series, while in the animated series, he was voiced by Mona Marshall.
