Hydra is a terrorist organization appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The name "Hydra" is a reference to the mythical Lernaean Hydra. The organization's motto references the myth of the Hydra, stating that "if a head is cut off, two more will take its place", proclaiming their resilience and growing strength in the face of resistance. Founded by the Red Skull in World War II, HYDRA's goal was to rule the world, though they failed in end of the war, HYDRA managed to live on.
