Libby Stein-Torres is a supporting character from the Disney animated series The Ghost and Molly McGee. She's a shy, and quirky girl who becomes Molly McGee's best friend.

Appearance[]

Physical[]

Libby is a tall, skinny, and tan-skinned girl with brown eyes and seaweed greenish-brown hair that is long and slightly messy.

Attire[]

Her usual outfit consists of a teal green sweater with darker green cuffs, a long-sleeved black shirt which she wears underneath the sweater and light olive jeans that are ripped at the knee. She also wears big blue-grey boots with straps on them.

She dresses differently in her synagogue and during her performance in "Talent Show".

Abilities[]

Libby's good at embroidery, being able to make artificial toes to appear life-like to the Howlin' Harriet and is an expert at telling scary stories. She also wrote the movie for Molly in "Hooray for Mollywood!", where she was also cast as the lead of the film, although she expresses that she does not like performing. Although she has a bad singing voice, she's good at beat poetry as shown in "Talent Show". She's an expert tracker as shown in "Scratch the Surface". A number of times, she's revealed to be well-versed in the history of Brighton. In "Friend-Off", she's creative enough to turn a pile of turnips into a rope.

Personality[]

Libby is a kind-hearted, outgoing, eccentric, and geeky girl. She is seen as an outcast at school due to her mispronouncing Andrea's name on her first day, which caused her to be somewhat distant from her classmates. She can be a bit shy sometimes, which is especially shown in "Mazel Tov, Libby!" where she is also revealed to hate big crowds, hence why she invited only Molly and Scratch to her Bat Mitzvah.

In Monumental Disaster and Scratch the Surface, Libby is revealed to be a bit of a conspiracy theorist, calling herself things like "an agent of truth" or "the bloodhound of truth", as she makes it her business to know all the town's secrets, including the secret door to the town's library archives, which contains the only copy of "The Real History of Brighton" and the revised song that goes with it. On top of uncovering more accurate history, she's also interested in investigating supernatural occurrences, though her theories-- even with evidence-- aren't always correct, as she thought Molly's odd behavior was the result of being infected with an East Canadian Brain Slug, mistaking Scratch's ectoplasm for slug slime. She faints upon learning that ghosts are real, and wastes no time documenting it in her audio logbook after she recovers. Though she makes it her business to know the truth about everything, Libby can be trusted with a secret, as she only reveals her suspicions about Ezekiel Tugbottom being a fraud when Molly was suspicious of him as well, and didn't tell anyone else before or since.

Although mostly an introvert, "Friend-Off" demonstrates her more brutally honest side and a rarely shown side of her confidence, proven by how she manages to retort Scratch multiple times when they fight over being Molly's best friend.

History[]

Libby and Molly first meet on the latter's first day at Brighton Middle School, telling her the story of how she, too, was made an outsider after mispronouncing Andrea's name. By the end of the episode, her and Molly's her outsider status is revoked by Andrea herself (under Scratch's control), and they officially become friends after a camping trip in the woods. Over the course of the first half of Season 1, she noticed Molly behaving weirdly around her, and at first she thought this is because a fictional creature possessed her or that she doesn't want to be her friend, but she was shocked when she found out the reality: Molly was hiding her ghost friend, Scratch, from her (Scratch the Surface).

Libby argues with Scratch about who's a better friend for Molly, but ends up befriending Scratch after they save her together (Friend-Off).

When a blackout struck Brighton on the final night of Hannukah, and her family's bookshop, Book Marks the Spot, is the only place in town with a generator, Libby was glad to share all her family's Hannukah traditions with those coming in for refuge, especially the McGee family (and their honorary ghost relative, Scratch). She did beat poetry, intoduced the McGee's to the Miracle Box tradition, set up a buffet of traditional Jewish dishes that are all deep fried... much to Scratch's delight... and challenged Scratch, Molly, and Darryl to a game of dreidel (with them betting with chocolate coins that Scratch mistook for real gold) and won the jackpot against them by spinning gimel. Libby noticed it was a Hannukah miracle that the generator kept going for eight hours, even though it only had enough fuel for one hour, and just when the lights went out, and thus she thought she jinxed it, the blackout was officially over. (Festival of Lights)

Relationships[]

Molly McGee[]

Libby is Molly's best friend. The girls first met in "First Day Frights". Libby introduced herself with the story of how she called Andrea "An-drea" instead of "On-drea". Molly and Libby become best friends in "Howlin' Harriet".

Scratch[]

Although she fainted on sight of him during their first official meeting in Scratch the Surface, Libby quickly recovers in Friend-Off when Molly officially introduces her to Scratch. At first, Libby was beside herself, for while she was excited to learn that her theory that ghosts exist is accurate, she didn't like Scratch being her first encounter with his kind on account that he is "rude". The two of them were forced to bond, however, when Molly tricks them into doing a scavenger hunt, which they both address as "another Molly scheme", but even though they started getting to know each other during the activity, they didn't start liking each other and kept fighting one another until Molly accidentally got herself in danger, forcing Scratch to admit to Libby that he needs her help saving their best friend. After that mishap is over, Scratch and Libby grew on each other over the fact that it takes both of them to keep Molly out of trouble, and their mutual confusion over Molly's phrase "sweet baby corn", much to Molly's embarrassment.

Trivia[]

  • As of "Mazel Tov, Libby!", Libby is at least 12 years old, as girls have their Bat Mitzvahs when they turn 12. However, since her family's bookshop isn't doing as well as it used to, and she's in the same grade as 13 year old Molly, Libby could've had her Bat Mitzvah a year later then the norm and thus is really 13 herself.
  • Libby claims that she is a terrible singer (though she wasn't even aware of it officially until Molly finally told her the truth about it), yet she writes her own lyrics which convert rather smoothly into beat poetry.
  • Much like Molly, Libby has a mixed ethic background, and is stated to be both Jewish and Latina, though her Latin American traditions have yet to be officially revealed in series.
  • In Scary Holiday Song, Molly gives Libby a cat for Hanukkah. Although this may be non-canon.
