The Mad-Man is a minor character in Primal and the main antagonist of the second season episode, The Primal Theory.
Appearance[]
The Mad-Man has a very large and muscular physique. His arms and legs are extra wide in comparison to the rest of his body. He is bald and has menacing facial features, yellow eyes and sharp, jagged teeth. The Mad-Man possesses tattoos of a skull on his chest with snakes coming out of the eye sockets that reach to his back and the word "death" printed on his belly.
As far as clothing goes, the Mad-Man wears only a pair of blue and white-striped pajama pants.
Personality[]
The Mad-Man displays a brutal, murderous, sadistic behavior. He appears incapable of speech or is unwilling to do so, instead only making deranged noises and maniacal laughter. He apparently kills anyone he finds with his bare hands and sharp teeth, then often feeding on their corpses.
Despite his animalistic tendencies, the Mad-Man displays intelligence to some degree. He was shown to be able to stalk his prey and know when to flee from them. His intelligence is further shown when he is able to block an exit, dodge gunfire, and when he uses Blakely as a human shield to tease his opponents.
The Mad-Man is shown to be relentless in his pursuit of prey, though this later becomes his downfall. He refused to back down even after being injured several times which lead to his eventual execution.
History[]
The Mad-Man had escaped one stormy night in 1890 from an insane asylum in England, having killed an orderly during the break-out. Just down the road from the asylum was the estate of one Sir Darlington, who on that same night was hosting a gathering of scientists. He broke into the mansion's upper floors and killed the butler, Stevens, and began cannibalizing on his corpse, which soon alerted the learned men of his presence. The Mad-Man had chased them through the upper level and down to the ground floor where he killed the elderly Bertie and knocked out Giroud. The remaining men, Charles, Blakely and Sir Darlington were forced to retreat in several consecutive rooms in order to escape fighting him. During these chases the deranged man had also murdered the cook of the estate.
After having been chased into the armory Darlington momentarily runs the Mad-Man off with a shot from one of his revolvers. The three men arm themselves and prepare for a fight. They are however once again overpowered by the escapee, who manages to knock Blakely unconscious and use him as shield against the other two. He is eventually shot in the right shoulder by Darlington, but he shrugs it off and continues the attack. Sir Darlington decides in the heat of the battle to fight off the Mad-Man with his skill in boxing. After a brief fight wherein Darlington lands several punches the Mad-Man grabs him the neck and begins to choke the man. Fortunately, Charles grabs a nearby English sword and kite-shield and manages to distract the attacker. The Mad-Man evades Charles' attacks and is about to land another blow on top of the gentleman until Darlington picks up a bow and quiver and shoots the Mad-Man's body in several places. The injured lunatic manages to run into the mansion's closed garden and lands into the fountain.
At that point the inmate is greatly angered by the men's onslaught and with speed and blunt force manages to disarm Sir Darlington and tosses Charles across the room. Despite Darlington's last effort of his boxing skills, he merely mildly damages the Mad-Man's nose. The Mad-Man grabs Sir Darlington and begins drowning him in the fountain, only to give up due to hubris and for another attempt at cannibalism, this time on Charles. This proves to be his last mistake as the severity of the situation causes Sir Darlington's primal instincts to kick in. The middle-aged gentleman grabs a nearby animal bone and knocks it over the Mad-Man's head, just as he was taking a bite out of Charles's left shoulder. He brushes Darlington aside, but the man at that moment had unlocked an inner strength. The storm knocks a tree from outside, which breaks the windows and lands inside the garden. In the confusion both the Mad-Man and Charles are shocked to see a bare-chested Darlington scowling like a caveman atop of the fallen tree, with a spear in his hand. The Mad-Man is once again under attack from Darlington, who cuts at his flesh. And although the escapee breaks the spear Darlington uses the remaining splintered shaft to continue piercing at the insane man. At that point he is now severely bleeding and tries pressing on with his attacks. Darlington nimbly evades these attacks and leaps over the Mad-Mad, landing on his back and delivers a killing blow in the Mad-Man's scalp. The deranged man lands on his front on the floor and continues to bleed out. In the wake of the destruction caused by the Mad-Man had left Sir Darlington disturbed and perplexed at his wild behavior, while Charles is finally vindicated of his theories regarding humanity's regression towards their ancestral behavior.
