The Magic Mirror (known as Slave of the Magic Mirror, or Spirit of the Magic Mirror) is a legendary magical mirror who always speaks the truth, normally in verse form.
In the book Fairest One of All, a Tale of the Wicked Queen, it is revealed that the spirit of the mirror was once a living person. Specifically, the father of the future Queen Grimhilde. However, his cruel and harsh nature caused the young girl to gain insecurities about her beauty. Years after he died and after Grimhilde married Snow White's father, the king, after her mother died, the king's three witch-like cousins came with a gift for the new queen, a mirror. But this mirror, as she soon found out, was a magic mirror, and within this mirror dwelled the spirit of her father. It turns out that due to him bartering his soul with Chernabog to become a master mirror maker, when he died, his soul became trapped within the mirror for eternity, and only his daughter, the queen, could summon him forth to help her, thus making him both an agathion and her eternal slave.
Queen Grimhilde consulted the mirror every morning, asking who is the fairest of all. As long the Slave always answered that the fairest of all was her, she'd be contented, until one day he spoke that Snow White was the fairest, making the Queen angry, thus planning the huntsman to kill Snow White, so she would remain the fairest in the land forever. However, the mirror revealed the huntsman didn't kill Snow White and instead the Queen disguised as a peddler and concocted a poison apple to give to Snow White so she would sleep forever, until when her true love Prince Florian came and kissed her, breaking the curse.
After the Queen's death, it is unknown whether the spirit of the mirror went to a new master or he is remains in the castle.
