Summary[]
Team Natsu travels to Earth, where in the early 1960s, during the height of the Cold War, where they meet the mutants Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. Despite their vastly different backgrounds - Charles grew up with a wealthy family, while Erik lost his parents at Auschwitz - the two become close friends. As the world teeters on the brink of nuclear war, Charles, Erik, and Team Natsu, along with other mutants, join forces to save humanity. However, an incident soon tears the two friends apart.
Plot[]
In 1944, in a Nazi death camp, Nazi scientist Klaus Schmidt witnesses young prisoner Erik Lehnsherr bending a metal gate with his mind when he is separated from his parents. In his office, Schmidt orders Erik to move a coin on his desk, and kills the boy's mother when Erik fails to do so. In grief and rage, Erik magnetic power manifests, killing the two guards while they scream in pain and destroying the room. Meanwhile, in a mansion in Westchester County, New York, child telepath Charles Xavier meets young shapeshifter Raven, whose natural form is blue-skinned and scaly. Overjoyed to meet someone "different", like himself, he invites her to live with his family as his foster sister.
In 1962, Erik, now a Nazi hunter, is tracking down Schmidt for vengeance, while Xavier graduates from the University of Oxford. While celebrating at a pub, Charles and Raven meet Natsu Dragneel, Happy, Lucy Heartfilia, Gray Fullbuster, Erza Scarlet, Juvia Lockser, Gajeel Redfox, Panther Lily, Wendy Marvell, and Carla. Charles and Raven welcome them into their home as guests. In Las Vegas, CIA officer Moira MacTaggart follows U.S. Army Colonel Hendry into the Hellfire Club, where she sees Schmidt - now known as Sebastian Shaw - with mutant telepath Emma Frost, teleporter Azazel, cyclone producing Riptide, and their new allies the Reborn Oracion Seis: Brain II (Midnight), Angel (Sorano), Cobra, Racer, Grim Reaper, and Jackpot. Threatened by Shaw and Brain II and teleported by Azazel and Jackpot to the Joint War Room, Hendry advocates deployment of nuclear missiles in Turkey. Shaw, an energy-absorbing mutant whose powers have de-aged him, later kills Hendry by releasing the energy he absorbed previously from an exploding grenade. Brain II covers it up by making it seem like Hendry had drowned at sea.
MacTaggart, seeking Xavier's advice on mutation, takes him, Raven, and Team Natsu to the CIA, where they convince Director McCone that mutants and magic exists and Shaw and Oracion Seis are a threat. Another CIA officer sponsors the mutants and invites them to the secret "Division X" facility. Mactaggart, Xavier, and Team Natsu find Shaw and the Oracion Seis as Erik is attacking Shaw on his yacht, and Xavier rescues Erik from drowning, while Shaw and the Oracion Seis escape in a submarine. Xavier and Team Natsu bring Erik to Division X, where they meet young scientist Hank McCoy, a mutant with prehensile feet, who believes Raven's DNA may provide a "cure" for their appearance. Xavier uses McCoy's mutant-locating device, Cerebro, to seek recruits against Shaw. Xavier and Erik recruit bar employee Angel Salvadore, cabbie Armando Munoz, Army prisoner Alex Summers, and conceited drifter Sean Cassidy, while Team Natsu contacts Evergreen, Elfman Strauss, Laxus Dreyar, and Cana Alberona.
When Frost meets with a Soviet general in the USSR, and uses her telepathic powers to pretend to entertain him, Xavier, Erik, Natsu Dragneel, Erza Scarlet, Gray Fullbuster, Juvia Lockser, Gajeel Redfox, and Panther Lily capture Frost and discover that Shaw intends to start a nuclear war between the US and the USSR which would accelerate, trigger global mutations and therefore lead to the extinction of the human race. Azazel, Riptide, Shaw, and Reborn Oracion Seis attack Division X, killing everyone but the mutants, the wizards, and the Exceeds, whom Shaw invites to join him. Salvadore accepts, and when Summers, Laxus, Munoz, Elfman, and Evergreen retaliate, Shaw kills Munoz, critically injures Elfman, and breaks Evergreen's leg and tears off her wings. In Moscow, Shaw and Brain II compel the general to have the USSR install missles in Cuba. Wearing a helmet that blocks telepathy, Shaw follows the Soviet fleet in a submarine to ensure the missiles break a US blockade.
Raven, thinking McCoy is attracted to her natural form, tells him not to use the cure. When she later attempts to seduce Erik by taking the forms of various women, Erik tells her she is beautiful as she is, in her natural mutant form which makes her contemplate naturism. McCoy uses the cure on himself but it backfires, giving him blue fur and leonine aspects. With McCoy piloting, the mutants, the wizards, and MacTaggart take a jet to the blockade line, where Xavier uses his telepathy to influence a Soviet sailor to destroy the ship carrying the missiles, and Erik uses his magnetic power to lift Shaw's submarine from the water and deposit it on land. During the ensuing battle, Erik removes Shaw's helmet, allowing Xavier to immobilize Shaw. Erik admits to Shaw that he shares Shaw's exclusivist view of mutants but, to avenge his mother, kills Shaw - against Xavier's objections - by forcing the Nazi coin from his childhood through Shaw's brain, causing massive pain to Xavier in the process.
Fearing the mutants and wizards, both fleets fire missiles at them, which Erik stops and turns back in mid-flight. Beast, Havok, Banshee, Gajeel Redfox, Panther Lily, Erza Scarlet, and Laxus Dreyar attempt to stop Erik, only for Hank, Alex, and Sean are tossed back by Erik, while Gajeel, Lily, Erza, and Laxus are intercepted by Angel, Cobra, Racer, and Grim Reaper. Xavier gets into a fight with Erik, causing him to lose concentration and constantly cause the missile to hit each other. After Erik knocks Xavier aside again, Moira tries to stop Erik by shooting him but he deflects the bullets, one of which hits Xavier in the spine. Erik rushes to help Xavier and, distracted, allows the missiles to fall harmlessly into the ocean. Parting with Xavier over their differing views on the relationship between mutants, humans, and wizards, Erik leaves with Salvadore, Azazel, Riptide, Mystique, and the Oracion Seis. Later, a wheelchair-bound Xavier and his mutants, who all say goodbye to Team Natsu, are at the mansion, where Xavier intends to open a school. Moira promises Xavier never to reveal his or Team Natsu's location and they kiss; later, at a CIA debriefing, she says she has no memory of recent events, since Xavier wiped her mind of them. Elsewhere, Erik, along with Mystique, the Hellfire Club, and the Oracion Seis, frees Frost from containment, and calls himself "Magneto".
