Romeo is the main antagonist of the PJ Masks television series. He is an evil young mad scientist and a child prodigy who plans on world domination with robots, inventions or anything to make the world love him; and is a counterpart of Roméo Mécano from an alternate universe.
Appearance[]
Romeo is identical to Roméo Mécano, but the only difference is that his scientist coat's buttons are square and black in color, wears darker gray pants and boots instead of white pants and normal shoes.
Another difference is his goggles looks more detailed with a short and thin wire antenna standing outside from the edge of the left lens frame. His eyes are deep indigo (as seen in "Gekko and the Mighty Moon Problem") instead of blue. His hair is black with a white streak instead of being blue, and his hairline is smooth instead of having hair bangs.
Personality[]
Romeo is extremely intelligent for his age, but sadly, like many about as young as he is, Romeo fails to see the sagely distinction between knowledge and wisdom, consistently confusing either for both. He isn't very physically combative, nor is he particularly arrogant about his intellect, but is very bent and keen on taking over the world and has an ego to prove that he's the greatest inventor. He has an intense dislike for the PJ Masks, but isn't extremely violent with them. He usually accepts his fate and flees when he knows he is defeated.
Romeo has a very respectful Robot that performs tasks for him and brings him from place to place. Similar to how Luna Girl is with her moths, he tends to mistreat his robot and acts stubborn towards his warnings about the PJ Masks. It could be possible that Robot is his only friend.
In "The PJ Masks Save Christmas," Romeo is shown to have a kinder personality. After opening up Robot's present to him, he becomes touched by the Christmas spirit of giving and decides to help the PJ Masks and Santa Claus return the Christmas presents and decorations to the town. Once that is finished, he proclaims that he will be good from now on, but only during the holiday season since he is still a villain after all.
As Captain Smarty Pants[]
When Romeo got zapped by the Opposite Ray and turned into Captain Smarty Pants in "Gekko and the Opposite Ray," he is friendly and nice towards Gekko. He's also considered helpful since he helped Gekko while he was trying to defeat Night Panther and Dark Owl.
Trivia[]
- He was the first villain to appear in the TV adaptation, making him the main antagonist of the entire series.
- While overall with the whole book series and TV series together, he is the eleventh villain to appear.
- Romeo knows about the PJ Masks' secret identities.
- Romeo was more focused in "Romeo's Disguise" and "Romeo's Crystal Clear Plan."
- Romeo broke the fourth wall by talking to the viewers in "Lionel-Saurus."
- Unlike his book counterpart, he is seen with his goggles at almost all of his appearances.
- However, Romeo has been seen twice without his goggles. First in "Owlette and the Flash Flip Trip" on book covers, and again in "Gekko and the Mighty Moon Problem."
- He sided with Night Ninja and the Ninjalinos in "Catboy and the Shrinker," "Wacky Floats" and "PJ Masks Vs. Bad Guys United."
- In "Nobody's Sidekick," he sided with Armadylan, though it turns out to be a trick by him, making him the first villain to trick Armadylan.
- In "Gekko and the Mayhem at the Museum," he revealed that he likes Double Tofu Pistachio ice cream.
- In "Speak UP, Gekko!," there was a brief animation error that removed his legs.
- He is currently the first and only villain in the series with one clear motive: to take over the world. Night Ninja's motives vary, but mostly tie in to proving his "supremacy" and Luna Girl usually just steals things, with no clear motives.
- He calls Catboy "Kitty Litter Boy" more than Luna Girl and Night Ninja, who only called him this once. This could mean that he dislikes Catboy more than the other two villains, or it could simply be a coincidence.
- Romeo has called the PJ Masks these names:
- PJ Pests, PJ Monkeys, PJ Stinks, Super Stumblers, PJ Pains, PJ Dodos, Daytime Dodos, PJ Do-Gooders, Non-Speaking Ninnies, PJ Show-offs, Peewee Masks, PJ Pets, PJ Pogosticks, Bozos, PJ Goofs
- Catboy: PJ Pussycat, Kitty Litter Boy, Kitty Cat, Kooky Cat, Silly Cat, Pussycat, Biker Boy, Little Kitty, Pesky Pussycat

- He is based on the original book character, Roméo Mécano.
- Unlike his book counterpart, Romeo is not portrayed as a student in the daytime, and is likely that he is portrayed to be only self-educated.
- This can be evident as he is never seen in School in the day, and is seen (offscreen) using his inventions for his latest plan.
- He is the fifth villain to be at Mystery Mountain. However, he has yet to meet An Yu directly due to the fact that he was inside his Sky Factory in the Season 3 episode "The Disappearing Ninjas."
- He is the fourth villain to show a kinder side.
- The first was Luna Girl in "Catboy and the Butterfly Brigade,” “Owlette the Winner,” etc.
- The second was Night Ninja in “Owlette and the Owletteenies” and “Wolfy Mountain.”
- The third was Kevin in “The Good Wolfy.”
- Most of the inventions Romeo has invented are ray-related inventions. This is the case, as of Season 2 and onwards.
- The episode showing the strongest portrayal of Romeo trying to look great with compliments from other people was "Speak UP, Gekko!."
- He has teamed up with the PJ Masks to defeat another villain once. It's unknown if it will happen again.
- The episode was "PJ Sky Pirates."
- This counterpart of Roméo Mécano is a combination of his original design and inspirations of the Marvel supervillains' designs, Doctor Octopus and Lizard (sans reptilian appearance).
- Romeo's motive on taking over the world also counts as an inspiration of Lizard's similar plan.
- His black hair and streak is a direct reference and inspiration to J. Jonah Jameson, a character from the Spider-Man comic series.
- In Ryan's Adventures Series, Romeo is the brother of Dr. Neo Cortex.
- He has a robot henchman called Robot.
- He is the leader of the group called Bad Guys United.
- He is also the younger brother of Professor Polonium, who often teases him about not achieving world domination yet.
