Squidward Tentacles

Squidward Tentacles is a octopus from the TV show SpongeBob SquarePants. He loves to play his clarinet but most of the time he just hates being bothered by his friends SpongeBob and Patrick. He and SpongeBob work at the Krusty Krab in Bikini Bottom. He is sometimes seen in the Winnie the Pooh/SpongeBob SquarePants short films and some of the Land Before Time/SpongeBob SquarePants short films.

Personality[]

Squidward is best described as ill-tempered, pretentious, and cynical who strongly despises his neighbours for their constant boisterous, noisy behavior. However, the pair are unaware of Squidward's antipathy towards them and see him as a friend. Squidward works as a cashier at the Krusty Krab restaurant, a job that he is apathetic towards.

Squidward also has a passion and interest in reading, arts, and music, and is very fond of playing the clarinet, though no one considers him to be very good at it, the same for his artwork due to his bad taste. This, however, not always the case as on some occasions, his artistic talents somewhat more improved than it used to be.

The post-movie seasons (Season 4 and so on which set between events from both the first 3 seasons and The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie) revealed that his misery, and inability to see the positive side of his neighbors' antics has developed a darker side of his personality where he sometimes became the wrathful, indifferent, and sadistic. The revelation of these negative traits was previously foreshadowed by him nearly killed SpongeBob with his brutal booby trap joke in the retaliation of the latter's annoying but harmless jokes in Fools in April episode.

Not only that, in various cases of his antagonistic acts that he performed, he sometimes has done so in a more malicious manner where he unknowingly became slave-driver for SpongeBob as seen in Can You Spare A Dime?, and Squidward, the Unfriendly Ghost, fooling anyone to gain an advantage for improving his life despite the small percentage of success, or the worst, illegal acts include verbal and physical abuse that threatened him to send to jail. The worst instances of his antagonism are when expresses his lack of remorse and genuine malice was when reading SpongeBob's diary aloud, disagree with his friends' idea to brought SpongeBob back home after remorseful with their abuse on him in retaliate of misfortunes that he unintentionally caused, and lend his lawnmower to both SpongeBob and Patrick hoping that they harmed themselves by accident wherein these case, he potentially crosses MEH. These negative traits were reasons why some Bikini Bottomites antagonize him out of sheer hatred.

However, Squidward is not a heartless character as he had a softer side which hidden under his sadistic, wrathful, and narcissistic personality. To some degree, he friends with SpongeBob and Patrick but incapable to see the positive side of their childish antics, reason why he tends to loathe them more than truly love them. He also has a romantic relationship with his girlfriend Squilvia (a relationship that only explored in an episode where she featured at). Squidward has shown leniency to SpongeBob more than one time. The proof that he cares about SpongeBob was when he rescued him from an incoming truck and stood up to an angry obesed fish for hurting SpongeBob's feelings and slammed a pizza in his face in "Pizza Delivery". In "Born Again Krabs", he berated Krabs for sold the sponge's soul for the Flying Dutchman. As he did, he expresses genuine disgust on Krabs' ungrateful action that made the crab regretful over his actions. Squidward actually does like Spongebob, something that he apparently is simply unwillingly to admit most of the time: in the episode "Graveyard Shift", when he thinks he is about to get killed by the "Hash-slinging Slasher", Squidward admits to Spongebob that, despite what he has said in the past, he "actually sort of likes [him]" (Spongebob confesses in response that he uses Squidward's clarinet to unclog his toilet). In Sponge On The Run, Squidward stood up for SpongeBob to Poseidon, saying that despite he thinks SpongeBob is annoying, he's still his friend who does not deserve to die.

The reason why he mostly grumpy at times can be traced back when he had a garden as seen in episode Truth or Square. At that time, Squidward appeared to have a happier personality, until a pineapple fell from a sailor's boat to the ocean and crushed his garden, destroying it. Not long afterwards, SpongeBob showed up and decided to modify the pineapple into a house that we know today as Squidward mourned over the loss of his garden. His garden's destruction depressed Squidward so much that he becomes bitter and presumably never told his new neighbor about what has happened in the first place.

Villainous Acts[]

Season 1[]

  • Help Wanted: He and Mr. Krabs get rid of SpongeBob by tricking him into buying a hydrodynamic spatula from Barg'N-Mart, but he actually bought it for real and saved both from the anchovies. However, despite Mr. Krabs rewarding SpongeBob and hiring him as the new fry cook, Squidward attempts to protest it. But to no avail. Patrick comes to order his meal, but SpongeBob sends him flying out with many Krabby Patties, causing Squidward to freak out. Squidward sarcastically in singsong tone says, "Mr. Krabs, come see your new employee!" in an attempt to have Mr. Krabs fire him and get rid of him. But it's most likely that his attempt fell on deaf ears, and he ultimately gave up now that he's stuck with SpongeBob being the new fry cook of the restaurant.
  • Reef Blower: He throws a shell onto SpongeBob's lawn.
  • Naughty Nautical Neighbors: While trying to enjoy himself on a quiet, peaceful day, SpongeBob and Patrick bother Squidward by blowing bubbles with messages in them. Squidward becomes annoyed with their childish games and decides to take advantage of their friendship by pitting them against each other. He blows his own bubbles filled with insults and snotty comments, tricking SpongeBob and Patrick into thinking that they were still talking to one another, which resulted to destroying their friendship. As Squidward laughs at them while eating his soufflé, he chokes on his own fork. But thankfully, Patrick saved him and removed the fork from his throat. Squidward and Patrick started off as friends at first, but when Patrick started falling asleep during a little clarinet presentation, Squidward immediately becomes annoyed. He tries to carry him out, but his heavy weight causes Squidward's back to snap. SpongeBob, hearing Squidward's cry in pain, jumps out and straightens out his back. And just like Patrick, SpongeBob and Squidward start off as friends as well. But when SpongeBob plays poorly on the cello in a musical session along with Patrick's intervention, Squidward kicks him out. Things got much worse when both Patrick and SpongeBob started fighting over Squidward, driving the poor cephalopod to the point of madness. Determined to get them back together, he arranges a dinner party for them, giving them large amounts of soda. He leaves to go buy some more after he ran out, leaving the two friends alone. However, while he was away, his house blows up when SpongeBob and Patrick laugh out bubbles when reconciling. Upon returning home, he angrily orders SpongeBob and Patrick to leave. But the remaining bubble results in his door crashing onto him and hurting his back again, giving him his well-deserved karma.
  • Home Sweet Pineapple: He ignores SpongeBob's calls for help on his shellphone and showed no sympathy towards SpongeBob whatsoever when his pineapple house gets eaten and destroyed by nematodes. He would even stoop this low when he refused to allow SpongeBob and Gary stay for the night and leave them sleep out in the cold. The following day, SpongeBob plants the pebble that was left behind from the nematode infestation. As SpongeBob prepares to leave with his parents, Squidward joyfully dances and sings while Patrick cries his heart out for not wanting his best friend to go away forever. However, much to everyone's surprise (including the selfish, grumpy old cephalopod), the pebble turned out to be a pineapple seed as it sprouts out a vine from the ground (thanks to one of SpongeBob's tears) and grows a brand-new house for SpongeBob, crushing Squidward underneath. SpongeBob, his parents, Gary, and Patrick happily rush inside to find everything back to where it's supposed to be. SpongeBob then goes over to Squidward, who appears under the floorboard, that he's back forever, much to the cephalopod's chagrin. Squidward becoming trapped under the floor of SpongeBob's regrown house is considered punishment for his unsympathetic attitude towards the little porous pal and for being unhospitable to him when he's homeless.
  • Nature Pants: Unlike Mr. Krabs, Patrick, Gary, and Sandy, Squidward never missed SpongeBob when he chooses to live in Jellyfish Fields to live among the jellyfish. He made it clear how much he doesn't miss him by throwing himself a party, thinking that SpongeBob will stay in Jellyfish Fields forever and never come back to bother him at all. However, much to his chagrin, he was forced to throw SpongeBob a welcome home party when the poor little sponge gave up living in the wild with the jellyfish and realized that wildlife isn't as great as he thought it would be.
  • Opposite Day: Annoyed with SpongeBob and Patrick's antics, Squidward decides to move out. However, he gets an idea of how to get them out of their way of his move. He makes up a holiday called, "Opposite Day", which involves one having to do the opposite of what they normally do. He tricks SpongeBob into being the opposite of his normal happy-go-lucky self by being grumpy, quiet, and out of his way. However, when Patrick comes over, SpongeBob tells him all about Opposite Day and convinces him to do the opposite as well. They start by doing various things and tear up SpongeBob's house. Squidward, who is laughing to himself, believed that his plan worked and starts packing up his things. However, his downfall is when his plan starts to backfire on him as SpongeBob began tearing up (in opposite: fixing up) his own house with Patrick's help. Squidward is outraged and goes to repair the house before the real estate agent comes. SpongeBob concludes that Squidward is acting like him, and he and Patrick must therefore act like Squidward himself. While Squidward continues fixing SpongeBob's house, the real estate agent arrives. SpongeBob and Patrick both impersonate Squidward and trick her into thinking they're the same person. Luckily, when Squidward was finished, he rushed into his own home and informs her that he is the real Squidward, and that SpongeBob and Patrick are just impersonating him. His statement confused her even more and accused Squidward for intentionally messing with her. And after Gary comes in, who also impersonated Squidward, the real estate agent angrily leaves in confusion and refuses to sell the house, much to Squidward's disappointment.
  • Culture Shock: When the Krusty Krab was not getting any customers, SpongeBob, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs hold a meeting on what to do to make money. When Mr. Krabs mentioned live entertainment, Squidward suggested they'd run a talent show with him being the host. Mr. Krabs loved the idea and starts to make the arrangements for the show. SpongeBob, who is eager to be a part of the show, continuously asks Squidward if he can be a part of the show. But Squidward, not wanting SpongeBob to ruin his chances of stardom, constantly rejects him and gives him the cold shoulder. He reluctantly lets him become part of the show, but instead gives him a mop to clean up the show instead. It is becoming clear that Squidward had no intention of wanting SpongeBob to be a part of the show whatsoever. And no matter how much he tried to impress the grumpy cephalopod with any kind of talent he had, he always looks for a pathetic excuse to get him out of his way in the spotlight. When the other acts did poorly, Squidward's act was on. As Squidward attempted to wow the crowd with his talents, they were unamused with it and booed him off the stage while pelting him with food. Squidward angrily berates the audience for not appreciating his talents, only to have his insult taken back by the audience when they tell him that he's the one who has no talent at all. Furious, Squidward storms backstage. SpongeBob asked him if he can go on, but Squidward angrily answers him that he can, as the show is already over. SpongeBob goes on stage and cleans up the mess with his mop, which surprisingly pleases the audience. SpongeBob gets a round of applause from the audience for his cleaning act. Squidward, thinking the applause was for him, charges out, only to receive silence. SpongeBob continues cleaning to great applause. Squidward charges in and is once again met by silence. However, he begins to realize that SpongeBob seems to be tied to the audience's sudden change in behavior and tries several times to get the audience to cheer for him by copying SpongeBob's act, only to be rejected and have another tomato thrown at him. Squidward is forced to conclude that it is SpongeBob the audience is cheering for and watches in defeat from the sidelines. While getting praised by Mr. Krabs, he hoped he'll be needing another wheelbarrow of money for next week's show, much to Squidward's chagrin and sadness.
  • Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost: When SpongeBob and Patrick accidentally melted Squidward's wax sculpture of himself, they believed that they killed the grumpy old cephalopod. However, Squidward comes out of his bathroom in a ghostly appearance while being covered in talcum powder and a white bathrobe. Squidward originally was going to chastise them for melting his wax sculpture. But upon seeing SpongeBob and Patrick thinking he's a ghost and begging him to spare them, he sees this as the perfect opportunity to get revenge. So, instead of telling them the truth that he's not dead, he cruelly plays along in the drama and tricks the two into thinking he is an actual ghost. His plan work for a little while as he made them pamper him and do chores like servants. However, his downfall is when SpongeBob and Patrick planned to put Squidward to rest in a coffin and prepare a funeral for him. Squidward puts it to a stop when he confesses his deception to them, revealing to everyone that he's indeed alive. But SpongeBob and Patrick are not convinced and assumed that he's a ghost in denial of his death. So, they trap Squidward in a bubble and have him float up to the surface where he goes to the "Great Beyond." Squidward is last seen high in the air and surrounded by seagulls, which only adds to his discomfort. Having Squidward surrounded by seagulls in a bubble above the surface is considered punishment for tricking SpongeBob and Patrick into thinking he's a ghost just to have them pamper him.
  • Employee of the Month: In an attempt to win the Employee of the Month award, Squidward continuously lies to SpongeBob that the award is nothing but a scam just to get him to lose his confidence. When it didn't work, he and SpongeBob violently compete against each other to see who would win the award. He even faked a truce so he can get the award for himself (SpongeBob even did the same thing too). In a final attempt to win, SpongeBob and Squidward race to the Krusty Krab. They begin overworking in an attempt to impress him, doing more harm than good, destroying much of the restaurants' supplies, and scaring Mr. Krabs out of his wits in the process. Then they flip thousands of Krabby Patties that overstuffs the Krusty Krab, causing the restaurant to explode. As Mr. Krabs complains that the customers need to pay for the patties who they thought were free, SpongeBob and Squidward annoy Mr. Krabs by asking him who won the award, giving him a major headache.
  • Scaredy Pants: He was one of the few people to scare SpongeBob on Halloween. During the party at the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob attempts to scare everyone in his "Flying Dutchman" costume with some help from Patrick. But Patrick gets himself stung by a jellyfish and he frantically runs around the roof screaming in pain, leaving SpongeBob swinging around inside. Squidward soon joined everyone in cruelly laughing at SpongeBob where he is left dangling in the ceiling and calling for help. But his pleas fell on deaf ears as they continue to laugh and scoff at the poor sponge. Luckily, the real Flying Dutchman appears and puts a stop to the humiliation. He scolds the townsfolk including Squidward about how people dressing up like him every Halloween had made him into a laughingstock and offended him. But out of all the costumes he's seen, SpongeBob's was the most insulting one ever. He goes to remove the costume, only to reveal SpongeBob's true form: his exposed brain as a result of Patrick's shaving. This terrified the Flying Dutchman as well as the townsfolk so much that they all ran out of the Krusty Krab in fear, giving them their well-deserved karma for scaring and teasing SpongeBob on Halloween. Including Squidward himself.
  • I Was a Teenage Gary: One of Squidward's most horrible traits is how he puts himself before anyone or anything else. And this was demonstrated in this episode. When SpongeBob was going away for the weekend with Patrick, Squidward was assigned to take care of Gary by feeding him with the assigned cans of food. However, with Squidward being the stupid, lazy squid that he really is, he spent the entire weekend enjoying himself by laying out in the sun while the poor snail nearly starved and dehydrated himself to death. Realizing that he neglected Gary, he tries to revive Gary by making him eat his food. But his efforts were to no avail. When SpongeBob finds Gary in critical condition, he calls the vet, who gives him some snail plasma. SpongeBob has Squidward inject Gary with some snail plasma, only to accidentally inject SpongeBob with it instead. Assuming that nothing will happen to SpongeBob, he heads home. But his assumption was proven wrong when SpongeBob comes to his house, now transformed into a snail. Squidward is horrified at what happened to SpongeBob and realized that if he hadn't been so neglectful towards Gary, the incident would never have happened. He frantically boards up the house and is chased around by SpongeBob, only to end up getting himself injected and turned into snail by the snail plasma himself. Getting himself turned into a snail is considered punishment for Squidward's gross negligence towards Gary.
  • Fools in April: Constantly annoyed with SpongeBob's pranks on April Fool's Day, Squidward devises a revenge plan by building a trap for SpongeBob as a nasty prank to get him to stop annoying him. He begins by squirting mustard on the floor and tricks SpongeBob into falling into his trap. Once SpongeBob cleaned up the spot, Squidward cuts the rope and activates the trap. It sent the chipper, yellow sponge flying around the restaurant, smacking into walls, crashing through objects like a bag of flour and Bubble Bass's buttocks, and landing him into a filthy garbage can. Squidward then cruelly laughs in SpongeBob's face, making the emotionally hurt square dude run out of the restaurant, crying. The customers, who witnessed Squidward's prank, were appalled by it and considered it as far too harsh and mean to be funny. They turn against Squidward and leave in disgust. It soon dawned on Squidward that all SpongeBob was doing the whole time was playing harmless pranks on people just so they could smile, have fun, and laugh with him. While his prank, on the other hand, was downright mean and it only meant to publicly hurt and humiliate SpongeBob so he could laugh at him. Remorseful for what he's done, Squidward goes to SpongeBob's house and attempt to apologize for his nasty prank. After many failed attempts, he ultimately manages to apologize to SpongeBob for real and admits that he likes him as well as the other people he's forced to be in contact with. Luckily, SpongeBob gets a sweet taste of revenge when he plays a harmless prank on Squidward, revealing the whole town inside his house who heard his apology from within. Squidward then goes into a mental breakdown and says that he's fooled them all and runs back into his house.
  • Hooky: He and Mr. Krabs prank SpongeBob by hooking up his pants and underwear with a fishing hook, stripping him naked and letting himself getting humiliated in front of a group of teenage girls. While it was needed for SpongeBob to learn his lesson, it was needlessly cruel of Squidward and Mr. Krabs to publicly humiliate the porous little sponge in such a mean way.

Season 2[]

  • Squid's Day Off: When Squidward was put in charge of the Krusty Krab after Mr. Krabs got injured on the job, he lies to SpongeBob about having important errands to run so he can have a real day off and get away from work. However, every time he attempts to relax at home, he suffers hallucinations of SpongeBob wreaking havoc on the restaurant that makes him go into a mental breakdown. In a final attempt to have his day off, he retorts to welding up his front door while being in the brink of insanity. However, his hallucinations get the best of him once again when he believes that SpongeBob left the Krusty Krab to check on him to see if he's actually doing errands. Driven mad with total insanity, Squidward runs out of his house and heads back to the restaurant, completely naked from his bath. By the time the mentally deranged cephalopod arrives, he finds that SpongeBob was "already" there - as he never left all that time. As he slowly winds down and regains his composure, he finally relents that he's finished with his errands, just as the remaining bubbles pop beneath him and leave him naked. SpongeBob gives him his clothes for him to wear. It turns out that Mr. Krabs didn't give a thought of switching the closed sign to open, which was the reason why the restaurant wasn't getting any customers in the first place. SpongeBob laughs at the mistake since it felt like they could've taken a whole day off, but Squidward, on the other hand, is overwhelmed with this revelation as his nose falls off and deflates his head in annoyance.
  • Bubble Buddy: To get revenge on SpongeBob for making him provide "excellent service" for Bubble Buddy at the Krusty Krab, he tricks Mr. Krabs into going against SpongeBob and forms an angry mob in order to pop the bubble (aka murder Bubble Buddy). When the townsfolk corner SpongeBob, he tries to get them to change their minds about Bubble Buddy about friendship. But it wasn't enough for them to change their minds as they throw SpongeBob aside and Squidward proceeds to go pop Bubble Buddy so he can go home and play his clarinet. However, much to everybody's surprise, including Squidward himself, Bubble Buddy miraculously comes to life and stops the grouchy cephalopod from popping him. Bubble Buddy leaves SpongeBob in a bubble taxi. The majority of the crowd are satisfied and leave as well. SpongeBob happily cries for his friend blowing up so fast before leaving in a flurry of bubbles. All but one of them pop, and Squidward, left behind in a daze, awkwardly greets it.
  • Dying for Pie: On Employee Brotherhood Day, Squidward was assigned to make a special gift for SpongeBob. However, it was a task that was too taxing for the lazy old cephalopod to do. He finds a group of pirates boarding a bag of pies onto their ship. So, he buys a pie from them with the cost of $25, thinking the pastry was harmless. He shows the pie to Mr. Krabs and lets him have a taste. But as he does so, they soon discover the pie's explosive nature when some of it explodes part of his office. Squidward frantically explains the situation to Mr. Krabs and goes to remove the bomb-infested pastry from the restaurant, only to discover that SpongeBob had somehow eaten it. This made Squidward even more worried when Mr. Krabs tells him that when the pie hits SpongeBob's lower intestine, he'll die along with it until sunset. Determined to atone for what he's done to SpongeBob, Squidward decides to come up with a plan to make the little square dude's final hours the most fun he has ever had, and it'll be filled with love. He goes with SpongeBob to do fun things with him but does it with a long list. The activities include greeting everyone in town, greeting everyone in town again with Squidward in a salmon suit, telling knock-knock jokes, and performing open heart surgery. The final activity is watching the sunset with Squidward. Remembering Mr. Krabs' warning about SpongeBob's death, Squidward nervously agrees to participate. As they watch the sunset, Squidward becomes more nervous than ever. Just as the sun passed over the horizon, the bomb explodes and Squidward cries in despair, thankful that he was able to make his last hours meaningful. However, it turns out that SpongeBob didn't die from the supposed explosion as Mr. Krabs predicted. He is still alive and unharmed and was actually blowing bubble bombs. Squidward is bewildered at this. But instead of feeling relieved that he's still alive, he angrily berates SpongeBob that he was supposed to explode after eating the pie. At first, SpongeBob is confused, but then he remembers the pie that he was saving in his back pocket for them to share, while Squidward realizes he did everything for nothing. SpongeBob goes to share the pie, but trips over a rock and slams the pie in Squidward's face, making the bomb inside explode and destroy all of Bikini Bottom. Luckily, he still survived the explosion.
  • Patty Hype: He and Mr. Krabs cruelly made fun of SpongeBob's idea of Pretty Patties. But while Mr. Krabs gets his punishment, Squidward did not get his.
  • Grandma's Kisses: Another one of Squidward's most horrible traits is that he gloats and laughs at anyone whom he deems beneath him. And that was also demonstrated in this episode. Squidward and the customers at the Krusty Krab ruthlessly tease SpongeBob for having a kissing mark on his forehead given by his grandmother. At the end of the episode, it is shown that they have been spying on SpongeBob with his grandma through her house's window. (Important message: Kids, don't let this dumb adult (Squidward) fool you. It's perfectly okay to get hugs and kisses from your grandparents.)
  • Christmas Who?: After Sandy told SpongeBob the joys of Christmas, he decides to spread some of the holiday cheer all over Bikini Bottom. Everyone including Mr. Krabs, Patrick, Plankton, and Gary are moved by this. All except for the grinchy, Ebenezer Scrooge-like cephalopod, Squidward. The grumpy cephalopod thought SpongeBob was going around spreading lies and hoaxes about the glorious day when all he was doing was spreading joy and holiday cheer to everybody. On Christmas Eve, SpongeBob and the townsfolk gathered and waited for Santa to come. However, he did not arrive the following morning, much to everyone's disappointment (probably because Sandy forgot to mention that Santa only comes when everyone is asleep). Squidward comes out to cruelly humiliate the depressed SpongeBob and laugh in his face. However, in the midst of his shame, SpongeBob still gives Squidward a thoughtful gift: a wooden clarinet so he wouldn't feel left out in the holidays. Squidward is touched by this kind gesture and starts to feel bad for the way he treated SpongeBob. It began to dawn on him that SpongeBob was only trying to spread some cheer to people and realized that his grouchy attitude had ruined Christmas for everyone. To atone for his nasty behavior, Squidward dresses up as Santa Claus and generously gives away his possessions to other people to make SpongeBob happy, bringing the Christmas spirit back to Bikini Bottom in the process.
  • Pressure: He joins SpongeBob, Patrick, and Mr. Krabs into mocking Sandy just to prove that Sea Creatures are more superior than Land Creatures. However, when they were challenged into going up on land, karma comes to them when they were attacked by seagulls. Luckily, they were all saved by Sandy, and they made amends with her in the end.
  • Graveyard Shift: He cruelly plays a nasty joke on SpongeBob by telling a scary story of the Hash-Slinging Slasher in order to get him to stop annoying him. Luckily, as the night shift goes on, the joke backfires on him as everything he said in his story is played out for real. He literally becomes scared when the supposedly real Hash-Slinging Slasher comes in and approaches the cash register. But it turns out to be a regular customer who is looking for a job application. And the spatula, whom they thought was a replacement for his supposed severed hand, was just a regular spatula being held by his fully intact hand under his sleeve. The phone call he made was actually him, but he hung up due to his nervousness.
  • Artist Unknown: Another one of Squidward's worst traits ever is that he stupidly and obnoxiously denigrates somebody else's talents. He does it mostly out of jealousy and envy when his own talents are deemed inferior. Throughout this episode while being hired as an art teacher, he rudely denigrates SpongeBob's artistic talents and views them as childish nonsense. When SpongeBob makes a sculpture that's more beautiful, Squidward is amazed at first. But out of jealousy, he scoffs at SpongeBob's masterpiece and refuses to acknowledge his talent. SpongeBob is emotionally hurt and throws himself in the dumpster in disappointment. This narcissistic attitude Squidward demonstrated in this whole episode clearly shows how much he completely lacks the humility in his soul. Soon, a famous art collector named Monty P. Moneybags came to collect some rare art pieces for his collection in the Bikini Bottom Museum. He was amazed by SpongeBob's sculpture and demands to know who's the artist. Squidward, seeing the perfect opportunity for fame and glory, selfishly takes the credit for SpongeBob's work and declares himself to be responsible. They attempt to take the sculpture to the museum, but accidentally shatter the head piece. Monty assures him that he can make another one and they will come back the following day. Squidward, desperate to have SpongeBob create another sculpture, rushes to the dump and convinces the depressed SpongeBob to return. However, much to Squidward's chagrin, SpongeBob has taken his prior lessons far too literally and fails to create anything of decent quality. When he tries to create another sculpture, it only reduces to a pile of rubble. This causes Squidward to go insane with anger and frustration. He then destroys the art classroom and ravages many of the art pieces in a fit of rage. SpongeBob concluded that his artistic "triumph" was too much for Squidward to handle and rushes back to the dump. As Squidward is about to stomp out, Monty arrives and sees the mess. He asks who's responsible for the mess, which Squidward retorts by passing the blame onto the janitor. He angrily quits his job as an art teacher and leaves. But unknown to Squidward, he created a much beautiful and bigger sculpture than SpongeBob's, leaving Monty to praise the janitor for his "artistic work." (which he didn't do)
  • Squid on Strike: Fed up with Mr. Krabs' greedy, cheapskate behavior, Squidward decides to go on strike and manages to convince SpongeBob to do the same. However, there isn't much wrong here as his actions were justified when Squidward was exercising his rights and trying to bring to light something he sees as an injustice. However, his ultimate downfall and chagrin is when he finally gets SpongeBob to literally embrace the strike. Inspired by Squidward's dedication, SpongeBob goes and dismantle the Krusty Krab entirely overnight right when they two employees were about to have their demands met. Squidward has no one to blame but himself for having SpongeBob cause the dismantlement of the Krusty Krab. All because he made a huge mistake in letting his speech flow through the chipper, yellow sponge's head and for getting him to embrace their so-called strike. So, Squidward's strike in an attempt to have their demands met by Mr. Krabs were all but in vain.

Season 3[]

  • Just One Bite: He rudely refuses to admit that he liked a Krabby Patty the moment he tasted it and demolishes the sandwich in the dirt with a gravestone in front of SpongeBob to prove his point. However, the grumbling squid begins to have a craving for the sandwich and decides to go eat some more. After sneaking into the Krusty Krab during the night, he manages to break into the Patty Safe and sees a whole hoard of Krabby Patties inside, much to his shocking surprise. When SpongeBob catches him in the act, Squidward immediately goes inside the safe and starts eating the patties while ultimately confesses his love for them as well. But much to his horror, the patties contain a terrible side-effect as they went right into his thighs and made him explode, thus leading him to get rushed to the hospital.
  • Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV: He attempts to tattle on SpongeBob for "stealing" Mermaid Man's belt, which led SpongeBob to panic and shrink him with the belt. This isn't true because Mermaid Man stupidly unbuckled his belt and left it behind and all SpongeBob simply wanted was an autograph. SpongeBob also had every intention of returning the belt to Mermaid Man but decided to hold onto it until after work and foolishly started playing with it.
  • Can You Spare a Dime?: This episode demonstrates how much the grumbling grouch of a cephalopod is a terrible housemate to SpongeBob and anyone else. After quitting his job following a fight over a dime with Mr. Krabs, Squidward becomes homeless, and SpongeBob lets him stay at his house for a couple of days. However, as the days turn into weeks then months, Squidward began to take advantage of SpongeBob's hospitality and starts eating outside of house and home. He even had the nerve to make SpongeBob wear a maid's outfit while doing his tasks. It's assumed that Squidward had become unbearably needy and expected SpongeBob to be at his beacon call every time he needed him. This caused Squidward to forget about finding a new job and it made poor SpongeBob completely frustrated. When Squidward made SpongeBob reach his boiling point, he pushes Squidward out of his house while he was still in his bed and ultimately convinces the cheapskate Mr. Krabs to get Squidward to come back, which he reluctantly does.
  • Squilliam Returns: In an attempt to impress his rival, Squilliam Fancyson, Squidward lies about owning a five-star restaurant. But when Squilliam plans to come to his "restaurant" that same evening, Squidward panicked and begs Mr. Krabs to let him run the Krusty Krab for one night. Which he does. Squidward hires Mr. Krabs to be the chef and SpongeBob to be the waiter while also reluctantly hiring Patrick to be the hat check boy. But things go haywire when Patrick starts beating up a hat stand, Mr. Krabs is revealed to be a terrible chef, and SpongeBob cannot handle the copy of the waiter manual Squidward gave him. Though Squidward helped SpongeBob a little bit by telling him to empty his mind of everything that doesn't have to do with fine dining and breathing, which left SpongeBob in a daze. Overwhelmed, Squidward runs out to go tells Squilliam that he needed more time to prepare. But it was too late. Squilliam was already at the front door of the restaurant with his guests, ready and waiting to be seated. As they enter inside, they find that everything inside the Krusty Krab is different: it is now a five-star restaurant like Squidward wanted it to be. In the midst of the amazement, SpongeBob, now with the mind of a fancy waiter, comes in and sends everyone to their tables. After serving Squilliam a delectable meal, Squidward was amazed and thinks his plan worked. He prepares to rub it all in his rival's face by admitting that his restaurant his fabulous to everyone. Squilliam then asks SpongeBob what his name is. But the chipper yellow sponge cannot remember what his own name is since it didn't occur to SpongeBob and Squidward that mentioning one's name had something to do with fine dining and breathing. This caused SpongeBob's brain to split and made him go completely insane, wreaking havoc all over the restaurant and destroying the fancy atmosphere. With that, Squidward is forced to confess his deception to Squilliam and admitted that the Krusty Krab is not really his restaurant while also revealing his real job as a cashier. Squilliam plays a cruel joke on Squidward by saying he's a cashier as well just to rub it in his face before leaving the defeated cephalopod in the dust.
  • Krab Borg: SpongeBob and Squidward become convinced that Mr. Krabs is a robot (thanks to the movie SpongeBob watched at his house). So, they tie him up and begin questioning him where Mr. Krabs is. Mr. Krabs is confused at their behavior and tries to tell them that he is indeed the real Mr. Krabs. But this doesn't convince them to stop. So, SpongeBob and Squidward demolish several of Mr. Krabs' expensive appliances to get him to talk. When they were about to demolish the cash register, Mr. Krabs cries his heart out. This causes both SpongeBob and Squidward to realize their terrible mistake for believing Mr. Krabs to be a robot and the interrogation they planned was for nothing.
  • The Great Snail Race: Squidward buys himself a purebred snail named Snellie and made fun of Gary for being a mongrel. He coldly rebuffs SpongeBob that he cannot beat Snellie in the annual Snail Race because he deems Gary worthless. On the day of the race, he still coldly rebuffs Gary as a mongrel and believes Snellie can beat him. He even laughed in a cruel manner when Gary crashed into a wall and didn't bother to help SpongeBob care for his snail when it was in critical condition. Just when he thinks he is gonna win it all, Snellie turns around and rushes to Gary's aid, much to Squidward's shock and dismay. His karma comes to him when Patrick's pet rock, Rocky, "wins" the race. But despite that, Patrick still showed good sportsmanship by engraving the trophy to Squidward since the starfish knew how much he wanted to win. This episode is another demonstration of one of Squidward's horrible traits of putting himself before anyone and anything else. Because all he cared about was winning a stupid snail race.
  • The Camping Episode: He recklessly puts everyone in danger when he stupidly ignores SpongeBob and Patrick's warnings about the dangers of attracting a sea bear. This is because Squidward was dumb enough to assume that sea bears were once thought to be a myth by scientists until he is proven wrong when a real sea bear appeared and attacks him. Squidward gets mauled by the sea bear six times until he jumps into the anti-sea bear circle drawn by SpongeBob and Patrick. He is then given a warning from the sea bear that the next time he does anything stupid to attract him again, there won't be any mercy.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie[]

  • He refuses to take part of SpongeBob and Patrick's mission to save Mr. Krabs from getting executed by King Neptune who was thought to have stolen his crown and selling it to Shell City. And later, like always, Squidward doesn't miss SpongeBob at all and gets to enjoy himself.

Season 4[]

  • The Lost Mattress: When SpongeBob and Patrick attempt to help Mr. Krabs' back condition with a new mattress, Squidward selfishly takes credit for their hard work and writes on their card, "This was all MY idea! Love Squidward". He even threw out Mr. Krabs' old mattress and had it hauled away to the dump, unaware that it had money inside it. When Mr. Krabs revealed it to Squidward, he panickily asked if he ever heard of a bank, which Mr. Krabs answers "NO!!!" This resulted in making Mr. Krabs go into a "cash coma" and is rushed to the Bikini Bottom hospital. The doctor tells SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward that only the return of Mr. Krabs' money from his old mattress can help save his life. Squidward attempted to cover up his misdeeds by pinning the blame on SpongeBob since getting a new mattress for Mr. Krabs was his idea. But the police officer come in and pointed out the card with Squidward taking all the credit on it as evidence for his crimes, making Squidward solely responsible for Mr. Krabs' condition. He is then warned that if Mr. Krabs dies, Squidward will go to federal prison for first degree murder. Squidward is outraged and warns SpongeBob that if he and Patrick to get Mr. Krabs' mattress back, he'll maim him completely. But the police officer stops the grumbling grouch from doing so and warns him that he'll be arrested for murdering SpongeBob too. So, Squidward reluctantly goes with SpongeBob and Patrick to go retrieve the mattress. However, when they arrive at the dump, they find a guard worm guarding the place. So, instead of helping to retrieve the mattress, Squidward puts SpongeBob and Patrick's lives in danger by attempting to have the guard attack them. But his every attempt gets backfired when the worm attacks him. Luckily, Mr. Krabs comes rolling by on his stretcher and is revived by his old mattress. SpongeBob and Patrick are unharmed, and Mr. Krabs is all better. But Squidward, on the other hand, gives up on having the worm kill SpongeBob and Patrick. He gets his well-deserved karma for his heinous misdeeds when the guard worm attacks and chases Squidward.
  • Skill Crane: He cruelly laughs and rubs in a little boy's face after winning a toy from a crane machine. This results the kid to angrily respond by kicking Squidward in the shin.
  • Funny Pants: SpongeBob's laughing annoyed him, so he lies to SpongeBob that he had a "laugh box" that would burn up if he laughed within 24 hours and could never laugh again. SpongeBob eventually thinks he lost his laugh and goes into "spiraling depression." which soon proved to be too much for Squidward to handle. SpongeBob's unbearable crying annoyed Squidward more than his laughter that he was forced to tell him the truth about his deception. Squidward's joke becomes real when his own laugh box gets broken. In the end, he gets the karma he deserves when SpongeBob transplants part of his laugh box to Squidward's throat to make him sound like him, much to the grumbling cephalopod's dismay.
  • Once Bitten: Annoyed with Gary invading his lawn, Squidward builds a splintery wooden fence to keep the snail out. But this attempt was no avail as Gary slithered onto the fence and got splintered by it. This resulted in the snail to become crazy and starts biting people, causing everyone including Patrick to assume that he has the legendary case of "Mad Snail Disease." Luckily, Dr. Gill Gilliam manages to remove the splinter and assured everyone that Gary was only suffering a harmless disease called "Grouchy Snailitis" instead.
  • That's No Lady: Squidward, along with Mr. Krabs, constantly stalk Patrick while he was under the disguise of "Patricia" in an attempt to have "her" go on a date with either of them. However, they were both unaware that it was Patrick in disguise, and it didn't count as antagonism since it was a big misunderstanding.
  • Squid Wood: Squidward becomes overly annoyed and jealous of SpongeBob's little wooden puppet, Mini Squidward, for getting all of the attention. He accuses Mini Squidward for "stealing his life" and goes to brutally beat up the little puppet alongside SpongeBob like a mad animal. Thankfully, he was immediately stopped by a talent agent named Milo J. Finkerfish who came to sign Mini Squidward up as his new client. Squidward attempted to impress Milo with his talents, but the producer refused Squidward's offer to be his client and instead takes Mini Squidward.

Season 5[]

  • Fungus Among Us: When SpongeBob got the bad case of the "ick," the distressed yellow sponge begs Squidward for his help. But instead of helping him by calling the hospital, he arrogantly and ruthlessly calls in the SWAT team and has them take SpongeBob away. This meanspirited move only made things worse as SpongeBob's ick spread onto him and then onto other people while serving the Krusty Krab food. As the episode continued on, the crowd went into a frantic frenzy and blamed Squidward for spreading the ick. But Squidward cowardly pinned the blame back at SpongeBob just to cover up his mistake for not taking him to the hospital instead of calling the SWAT team. Thankfully, Squidward gets his well-deserved punishment in the end when SpongeBob's ick-infested bubble popped, and the grouchy old cephalopod gets himself completely covered in it. Even though Gary cleans it off of him, Squidward did get his well-deserved punishment for refusing to help SpongeBob when he was in critical condition and for spreading the ick onto everyone else.
  • Good Ol' Whatshisname: In a contest to figure out the name of every customer in the Krusty Krab, Squidward steals a man's wallet to figure out the last remaining one so he could win. However, the police manage to catch him and arrest him for stealing the man's wallet. He was later sentenced to 10 years in prison, which he was okay with since he won't have to put up with SpongeBob and Patrick living next door to him for a while. But much to his horror, he finds that Patrick is in his cell with him.
  • SpongeBob vs. The Patty Gadget: In a desperate attempt to bribe Mr. Krabs into firing SpongeBob so that he'd get rid of him, Squidward creates a patty making gadget that makes twice as many Krabby Patties than anyone can. However, when SpongeBob overheard Squidward's plans, he challenged the grumbling grouch to a patty war, to which Squidward accepts. The two fry cooks battled it out, but Squidward stupidly made the gadget go haywire when he broke the lever off by accident. Thankfully, SpongeBob manages to produce enough Krabby Patties and stay ahead of the race long enough until the gadget exploded. Therefore, Squidward's pathetic plan of bribing Mr. Krabs into replacing SpongeBob with his patty-making gadget was a total failure.
  • Slimy Dancing: Squidward builds himself a trophy case so he can win a dancing trophy for himself. When he tried to enter the dancing contest, he failed to make it through. Squidward attempted to steal the trophy but is kicked out by the security guards. Desperate to win, he cheats his way into the contest by hiding himself inside SpongeBob's body. But during his dance, his legs cramp up. While it was unprecedented, he still won. But SpongeBob accidentally exposed Squidward's deception to the judge and the audience. This caused them both to become disqualified for cheating the contest since dancing with an assisted partner is against the rules.
  • A Flea in Her Dome: Squidward ignores SpongeBob and Patrick's pleas for help when Sandy's treedome was infested with fleas.
  • What Ever Happened to SpongeBob?: Squidward, along with Gary, Patrick, Sandy, and Mr. Krabs, selfishly kicks SpongeBob out of town for a pointless reason that he never did on purpose. When the town goes crazy and the citizens start craving for Krabby Patties, Squidward could care less on where SpongeBob is. That is until Patrick and Sandy showed Mr. Krabs the note about SpongeBob running away and never coming back. This made Sandy, Gary, Patrick and Mr. Krabs remorseful for the way they harshly treated SpongeBob. But Squidward, on the other hand, doesn't regret one bit for the way he treated SpongeBob and instead laughs at the misfortune in a cruel, malicious manner. Desperate to get SpongeBob back and apologize, Sandy builds a sponge tracker to track down the little yellow sponge. But the selfish cephalopod destroys it, hoping that SpongeBob will stay out of Bikini Bottom forever. Mr. Krabs is furious for Squidward's behavior and threatens to fire him if he doesn't find SpongeBob. But Squidward is unfazed by it and still refuses to help find him. However, Mr. Krabs came up with another idea in order to get the grumbling grouch of a cephalopod to help in the search. He offers Squidward a jeweled Fabergé egg as a retirement gift and he will give it to him on one condition: he will have to find SpongeBob first. Squidward agrees and reluctantly joins in the search to find SpongeBob. Sandy, Patrick and Squidward travel to New Kelp City where they find SpongeBob running as mayor under the name, "CheeseHead BrownPants." When they try to apologize to him, SpongeBob can't remember who they are. This caused their friends to realize that SpongeBob has a bad case of amnesia, and they try to get him to remember who he is. After many failed attempts, SpongeBob tries to abandon his so-called friends like they did. But Squidward hijacks a vehicle and pushes SpongeBob inside so they can drive him back to Bikini Bottom. They take SpongeBob to the Krusty Krab so he can get his memory back. But nothing works. Mr. Krabs sadly gives Squidward the Fabergé egg as agreed. But the cephalopod trips on the greasy spatula and sends the Fabergé egg smashing onto SpongeBob's head, restoring his memory. Everyone is overjoyed that SpongeBob's memory is back. Mr. Krabs, on the behalf of Sandy, Gary, Patrick, and even Squidward, apologized for their mean behavior and for running him out of town while also being glad that he's back. While SpongeBob accepts their apology, he still wishes to return to New Kelp City to be mayor, much to everyone's confusion and Squidward's delight. However, thanks to a little news story about bubbles causing mayhem in the city and a thug making threats on TV, SpongeBob changes his mind and decides to permanently stay in Bikini Bottom, while ultimately forgiving his friends. Squidward is utterly dismayed and gets his comeuppance at the end as he throws away his own brain in the trash can. This episode clearly showed that Squidward had no remorse for acting like a jerk to SpongeBob and completely lacked any amount of reconsideration in his soul. And he would even stoop this low to purposely and intentionally sabotage his friends' search for the chipper, yellow sponge since he was so desperate to not ever see him again. For he only helped everyone bring SpongeBob back just to get his hands on a Mr. Krabs' Fabergé egg. (Yes, we get it. SpongeBob can be tiresome to Squidward and everyone around him, but the way the grumbling grouch was portrayed in this episode was just too much. And here, we all thought Plankton was the real villain.)

Season 6[]

  • Not Normal: Squidward became the cause of SpongeBob's change of personality when his desire to be "normal" only makes things worse for people.
  • Gone: Takes part of the "National No SpongeBob Day" along with everyone else in Bikini Bottom. A holiday that the townsfolk cruelly made up just to spend a day far away from their porous pal. But the day nearly caused SpongeBob to freak out and believe that everyone abandoned him or forgotten him.
  • The Splinter: After finding out the SpongeBob got a splinter on his thumb while working the grill, Squidward cruelly takes advantage of the situation in an attempt to get rid of him for good. He stupidly lies to SpongeBob that if Mr. Krabs finds out about his splinter, he'll be sent home for the day or better yet be fired. So, he makes it worse by flushing his hat and spatula down the toilet. This causes SpongeBob to panic, and he begs Squidward not to tell Mr. Krabs about his splinter. Only for the grumbling grouch to continuously make things worse by tormenting the poor sponge with lies. Desperate to not be sent home or fired from his job, SpongeBob calls Patrick to help him remove the splinter. But the bloated starfish stupidly made his condition worse with bad treatments like his problem with the suds. SpongeBob was then called into the kitchen by Mr. Krabs. It turns out that Squidward had literally and figuratively stabbed told Mr. Krabs about SpongeBob's splinter behind his back. When SpongeBob showed Mr. Krabs the splinter, the gross image of his swollen thumb causes Squidward to faint. But instead of being angry as Squidward intended him to be, Mr. Krabs pulled the splinter out of SpongeBob's thumb, causing confetti and a disgusting amount of pus to spew out. SpongeBob's thumb is finally cured from the splinter and Mr. Krabs is somehow relieved that he almost would have given SpongeBob worker's compensation. When Squidward discovers that he could get paid while he is injured at home, he attempts to get worker's compensation by injuring himself with his cash register. But Mr. Krabs tells him that his shift had already ended two minutes ago, much to the grumbling cephalopod's dismay.
  • Slide Whistle Stooges: He becomes a nuisance to the townsfolk of Bikini Bottom and constantly bothers them with his slide whistle. With that, they form an angry mob, and they chase him all over town to stop him. He is finally stopped when he falls and crashes a gasoline truck down a ravine. Luckily, he survived the fall, only to have his slide whistle lodged in his throat.
  • Professor Squidward: Squidward pretends to be Squilliam at a community college music class just so he could prove he's the musical expert. However, things get out of hand when SpongeBob and Patrick join the class and continuously interrupt his lessons. They accidentally reveal Squidward's real name to the class and expose him as a fraud, causing the students to walk out on him. But Squidward blocks the door and angrily tells them that they aren't going anywhere. Thankfully, the police and the principal arrive with the real Squilliam. Squidward was then arrested for impersonating his rival and sent to jail.

Season 7[]

  • I ♥ Dancing: Squidward gets jealous that SpongeBob has an audition in a musical, and "teaches" him how to dance in order to steal the spot for himself, training SpongeBob to the point of exhaustion. While he wins, he ultimately gets a taste of his own medicine when he is forced to star in Squilliam's musical and is also forced to perform a dance that SpongeBob performed earlier in the episode. Squilliam is clearly shown to be planning on running him ragged just as Squidward had done to SpongeBob.

Season 8[]

Season 9[]

  • Little Yellow Book: Squidward reads SpongeBob's work diary in front of the customers, which made SpongeBob sad. He sees that he has been known as a "diary thief," but does not feel be until his house was repossessed. Later, he even reads SpongeBob's personal diary.
  • Don't Look Now: SpongeBob and Patrick see a horror movie. Squidward pretends to be the Fisherman in order to play a cruel joke on them. As a result, SpongeBob and Patrick misinterpret the Fisherman eating Squidward, they in reality end up injuring Squidward.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run[]

Trivia[]

  • He is vain and grouchy, but he puts those traits to good use.
  • Despite his grumpiness and arrogance, he has a good heart and actually cares about SpongeBob secretly considering him his friend and even saving his life, standing up for him, or protecting him on several occasions.
  • Some people get confused about whether he is a squid or not due to his name, even though he is actually an octopus, despite that he has six limbs (which would be two arms and four legs) when real octopuses have 8. (In fact, there was an octopus family that appeared in "Sailor Mouth" who looked like actual octopuses.)
  • When it comes to rescuing someone and battling in a war against a main villain, Squidward would use his superpowered form, Sour Note, from the "Sponge Out of Water" movie to fight.
  • As noted by fans and suggested by writer/voice actor Doug Lawrence in the DVD commentary for the season one episode "Plankton!", main casts of SpongeBob SquarePants were intended to represent Seven Deadly Sins. In Squidward's case, he represented Wrath due to seemingly in perpetual bad mood, extremely short temper, and only seeing the worst in everyone.
  • He does have a point in berating his neighbors SpongeBob and Patrick for their immaturity, stupidity, and annoyance.
  • Whenever Squidward does anything stupid to make the situation worse or argues with Mr. Krabs, Pooh, Ash, Littlefoot, and their friends would always glare at him and say, "Squidward, you're an idiot." or "Squidward, you idiot!" or Misty yelling at him.
  • Whenever Squidward does something malicious towards SpongeBob, Patrick, or Mr. Krabs, Pooh, Ash, Littlefoot, and their friends would always teach him a lesson and would tell him: And no more monkey business! Understand?! (Squidward: No. (everyone growls at him) Uh, I mean yes! Yes! Yes! I understand! Truly!) Good! However, in George, Harold and Mr. Krupp's Adventures Series and Tom's Adventures Series, the heroes will understand his pain(most of the time) since he does have a point in berating his neighbors SpongeBob and Patrick for their immaturity, stupidity, and annoyance.
  • He was used as a punching bag during some of the seasons 4 and 5, as well as Seasons 6-8 since some episodes such as "Boating Buddies", "Smooth Jazz at Bikini Bottom", "Cephalopod Lodge", and even "Choir Boys" showcase his actions in those episodes are either out of his own control or have nothing to do with him to begin with.
  • Even after season 6 to 8, he can still have bad episodes that focus on him suffering in a miserable state of mind, and much to the point you sympathize with him in a pitiful manner.
  • As with the rest of the main cast, Squidward's portrayal in post first movie seasons (Season 4-Season 9) became increasingly negative as a result of his worst traits exaggerated through the show's flanderization, with his portrayal in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water and Little Yellow Book where he was at his worst. Fortunately, this has since revised following the end of Season 9. Though he didn't see too much in decline in character, he was also flanderized into being a complete grouch that doesn't care for SpongeBob, even if sometimes is justified.
  • He is voiced by Rodger Bumpass, who also voiced the Chief from the TV show "Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?"
  • Squidward seems to shares similarities with Donald Duck due to their pessimistic and grumpy behavior, as well as their misery and pridefulness. He also shares similarities with Benson Dunwoody, because they are both getting angered by stupid guys (Squidward by SpongeBob and Patrick, and Benson by Mordecai and Rigby).
  • His voice sounds like Bert from Sesame Street.
