Warg

A Warg, as seen in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012).

Wargs are a species of wolf, or wolf-like animals related to wolves but bigger and even more intelligent (Sometimes speaking in their own language). They generally antagonizing, and sometimes they allie themselves with Orcs and Goblins, and other enemies; even acting as their mounts.

History[]

It is uncertains as to how wargs came to be; some say they are spiritual creatures like Balrogs, others say they were corrupted and/or bred that way; either as spirits or as real animals. Thou it's possible they may have started out this way as regular animals that already had their own intelligence who may well chose to do what they do, or were tought that way with trainning from Sauron.

Another possibility is that they might even be werewolves; beings that are spirits of Maiar or otherwise which were put into bodies of wolf-like form (Thus they are not the shapeshifting kind we're familiar with) or descendents of werewolves, or even from a corrupted breed maiar wolf-hounds.
